January 2, 2008 – Polishing their acts, designers poured on the silver for Spring. Nicolas Ghesquière created armorlike ensembles with stiff, softly glowing fabric at Balenciaga—Nicole Kidman sported a suit made of the stuff on the red carpet in Sydney last month. Olivier Theyskens went the molten route at Nina Ricci, draping silk into a liquid mercury gown. And Vera Wang favored foil-like lamé for her toga dresses. Naeem Khan also gave the metal high marks. "I use real sterling silver because it actually molds to the body," he said.
