Younis presented with 2007 Facchetti award

MILAN - Younis Mahmoud Khalaf, captain of the 2007 Asian Cup-winning Iraqi national team, was presented with the Giacinto Facchetti international award in a ceremony held this morning.
Younis, chosen as the second winner of the award by the jury of Candido Cannavò, Gianfelice Facchetti, Gianni Petrucci and Carlo Verdelli, was given a bronze sculpture and a cheque for 10,000 euros, to be donated to the charity of his choice.
"This is an important day and this award is a great thing for me. I will remember it forever," said Younis, who scored the winning goal in July's Asian Cup final against hot favourites Saudi Arabia.
The awards ceremony was attended by the Facchetti family, Inter president Massimo Moratti, Italian FA president Giancarlo Abete, Italian Football League president Antonio Matarrese and other personalities from the world of sport.
The Facchetti award was founded by Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport in memory of the late Inter great, who died on 4 September 2006.
Last year's inaugural winner was Paraguayan player Julio Gonzalez. Formerly of Vicenza Calcio, Gonzalez continued playing football after losing an arm in a road accident.
